Sharlene met the man of her dreams and soon after they married and bought a home in the mountains of Pennsylvania.

Sharlene worked from home as a graphic designer and during her downtime from her client projects she began to nest. She loved to bake and she using the gifts from her wedding registry she began to experiment with cooking. She fell in love with bread dough. First she made a half white-wheat bread and she nailed it. Then she branched out to pizza dough and with that same dough recipe came stromboli and calzones and empanadas with a new variation every night of the week. Not wanting to waste a bit of her efforts she multiplied the uses for dough scraps with recipes from her friends on social media. “Monkeybread!” “Zeppoles!”, her friends cried in suggestion. You could imagine as winter set in and the animals came to nibble at bird seed in their yard that her clothes began to get a bit snugger and she wondered if maybe their new dryer was perhaps a bit “too good” and getting their clothes “dry”.

Getting married, buying a house and feeling comfortable with these basic essentials met lead to an unintended weight gain for Sharlene and her husband. The novelty of new homemade foods coupled with the fear of wasting even a scrap of her efforts created a massive calorie overage neither person noticed or expected. Life changes, specifically those as amazing as making a new home can sabotage even a tall and lean woman like Sharlene. Sharlene finally realized that loving her new husband isn’t really connect to marinara and mozzarella. Feeding our beloveds can involve innovation of foods if we remember what a balanced plate looks like and we make provisions to guard against eating more than we need.
